Our local experts

We chose Kuria tribesmen to work with us at our Tanzanian camps due to their deep knowledge and innate powers of observation. These young Kuria tribesmen have proven to be superb additions to the Bushtops team, working primarily as spotters (three have worked their way up to become expert rangers) and providing security services.

By employing young Kuria men at Serengeti Bushtops and Roving Bushtops we provide a viable alternative to their other form of income: poaching. In this way, everyone wins. Bushtops gains local expertise; the Tanzanian authorities keep wildlife safe from human predators; you benefit from the sharpest human senses on the Serengeti (no one knows the bush better); and the Kuria gain a fruitful and sustainable livelihood.

Fostering Education

Supporting local school

Following the model established at Mara Bushtops (our sister camp in Kenya), Bushtops and many of our guests support children’s education at our neighbouring primary school – Bisarara near Serengeti Bushtops and Roving Bushteps’ Northern location (we have no school partner near Roving Bushtops’ southern base due to its remote
location).

Our support and that given by guests helps to provide everything from the building of class rooms, wash rooms, piping water, water tanks to cement floors, windows, lights and school materials. By making it easier for teachers to educate and students to learn, visitors to Bushtops literally change young lives for the better, forever.

How guests can help

Some visitors choose to make a financial donation. It should be stressed, however, that contributions are entirely a matter of personal choice and no pressure is ever brought to bear on anyone to participate. Simply by visiting any of our camps you create work, inject money into the economy and make a positive difference to the local community.

Those making school visits often wish to arrive with a gift. We recommend and support Pack for a Purpose who offer useful guidance on how guests can help schools, families and the local community with such donations (there is always a shortage of staples like pens and paper, clothes and footballs).
