Life goes on – unchanged.
As mankind endures its greatest recent challenge, the world’s flora and fauna remain largely impervious.
Guests visiting Bushtops Camps in the Serengeti and Masai Mara alike discover a world of timeless grandeur, with the only change being the relative absence of people. It is humbling to realise that nature’s story continues relentlessly, regardless of the pandemic.
Our pictures show encounters from Roving Bushtops, now situated at Kusini in the southern Serengeti. Guests have been lucky enough to see new-born calves take their first steps, rising unsteadily then – miraculously – able to run within minutes. With the alternative being becoming prey to surrounding cats and hyenas, this evolutionary ability is literally a lifesaver.
The abundance of rain-fed grasslands has seen huge black blotches spread across vast green carpets, with wildebeest and zebra fanning out to cover swathes of the Serengeti. The lush grass is full of rich nutrients, supporting the expectant wildebeest cows as they time birth to match the most auspicious circumstances for their young.
These images reflect elements of the migration, but it’s easy to forget that this is only one part of the endless excitement showcased on an African safari. Abundant, diverse wildlife is omnipresent in every camp – and with Bushtops, the addition of the widest smiles and most pampering facilities makes an escape to Africa more appealing than ever before: a true alternative to today’s challenging times.
